Classical Ballet and Lyrical GTP offers a fun yet technically strong ballet program. Our program is designed as a leveled technique program, integrating Classical Ballet and Lyrical. Empasis is placed on proper technique, correct body alignment and flexibility, ballet terminology and presentation. Includes strength, stretching and conditioning, barre and center warm ups and exercises, progressions and turns, and beginner-advanced combinations and choreography. Students will be invited into the next level of training at the discretion of instructor(s). Advancement is based on demonstration of proper technique, appropriate behavior and maturity as well as a working knowledge of ballet vocabulary. Due to the importance of Ballet and the role it plays in all styles of dance, Ballet is a requirement for Pointe and Jazz classes.
Pointe Our Pointe classes are available at the approval of the instructor. It is designed as an extension of the ballet program and is a beautiful but challenging endeavor requiring great discipline from the student. It includes strengthening barre and center warm ups and exercises, progressions and turns, and beginner-advanced combinations and choreography. The class empasizes Pointe technique with concentrations on alignment, strength, and balance. Requirements: Minimum of one Ballet class per week; Minimum age 12; instructor approval.
Tap is an audible dance form combining basic rhythms with articulate dance patterns of the feet. Our Tap program is a combination of several popular tap styles, from classic tap to rhythm and street. Emphasis is placed on proper techniques, terminology, timing, rhythm and counting music. Classes are desigend to start with basic movements and progress to complex styles and rhythm combinations. As students demonstrate proficiency in one level they will advance to the next level.
Jazz is a fast tempo, high energy style of dance that incorporates technical skills from ballet while reflecting the latest trends in dance and music. Jazz classes are designed to expose students to current Jazz styles with attention to stretching & conditioning, across the floor progressions leaps & turns, and center combinations and choreography. Emphasis is placed on proper technique and execution of dance ‘tricks’ and skills. To progress to the next level of the Jazz program, students must demonstrate a mastery of the skills learned at the current level. Advancement is at the discretion of the instructor(s).
Hip Hop is a high-energy, dynamic class that is designed to introduce our students to the basic styles of hip hop. Focusing on the foundations of hip hop body movement, we will break down choreographed routines and combinations, that are fun and energetic. Dancers are pushed beyond technique in order to find a connection between most popular styles of music and movement.
Contemporary/Modern encourages dancers to use their emotions and creativity to design their own personal movements, instead of such a structured code of technique. In contrast to Ballet, Contemporary/Modern dancers often use their body weight to enhance each movement rather than striving to be light and airy on their feet. Concentrating on the basic human movement techniques of contraction and release, this class offers floor and center warm ups, choreographed combinations, as well as individual and group Improvisation.
